For the safety of all
children, please be sure to read, understand and
obey the Safety Rules at all times! Please review
these rules with your children and care providers
who are responsible for drop-off/pick-up of your
children.
If you drive you
child to school
Plan your route to and
from school. Take into account the traffic
around school at peak times. It is not necessary
to drop your child right at the gate. Use the
crossing guards. By dropping your child across
Alta, for example, and having him or her cross
with the guard, you avoid tie-ups on Lincoln or
9th Street. Instruct your child to enter at a
gate or entrance on Montana, 9th Street, Lincoln
or Alta. Children are not to enter through the
staff parking lot on 9th Street.
Observe parking
regulations and drop-off & pick-up zones.
There are three 3-minute drop-off & pick-up
areas around the school:
In front of the
Lincoln Blvd. entrance
In front of the gate
on Alta Ave. that leads into the back
playground
Behind the clearly
marked BUS ONLY ZONE on 9th Street
Please use these areas
to drop-off and pick-up your children within the
3-minute time period and then MOVE ON. Cars left
for more than 3 minutes during the 8-10AM and
1-3PM time periods WILL BE TICKETED by the Santa
Monica Police Department. There is still free
street parking available around the school and
limited metered parking has been added on
Lincoln and 9th Street. PLEASE DO NOT DOUBLE
PARK.
The parking lot on 9th
Street is for Roosevelt staff only. Children are
not to walk through the lot. Please do not drive
through the lot.
Obey the law. U-turns,
double-parking and jay-walking are illegal and
put our children at risk. Never allow your
children to jaywalk.
Never make exceptions.
Whether you are late for the bell in the morning
or for an appointment in the afternoon, put
safety first. Stick to your planned route and
obey the rules.
If your child walks to
school
When your child walks
to school, please encourage him or her to use
the following safety precautions:
Walk on the sidewalk at
all times
Cross only at the
corners and obey the crossing guard on duty.
Crossing guards are at the corners of Montana
and Lincoln, Montana and 9th Street, 9th and
Alta, and Lincoln and Alta.
Always cross Lincoln
with a crossing guard
Wait to cross until the
crossing guard says it is safe
If
your child rides a bike to school
Currently, Roosevelt
does not have a bike rack available to park
bikes during the day. We do not recommend that
your child ride a bike to school. See the Office
for more information.
Children may not ride
skateboards, bicycles, scooters or rollerblades
or skates on the playground.
Pets at school
Pets are not allowed on
the school grounds or hallways at anytime.
Volunteers
For the safety and
security of everyone, we need to know who is on
campus at all times. All volunteers need to sign
in, pick up a volunteer badge and sign out in
the school office on the days they are
volunteering.
Anyone volunteering in
the classroom must be tested for TB. TB tests
must be current and clear. See the nurse for
more information.
